I. Read the text — вставьте слова из рамки

1. (1) pollution — Air, sea and land pollution is one of the biggest problems of our time. («Загрязнение» — подходит, потому что речь о воздухе, море и земле.)

II. Open the brackets using Conditional I (First Conditional). Объяснение: в первом условном предложении используем If + Present Simple в придаточном и will (или модальный глагол) + инфинитив в главном предложении.

1. Soon the Earth’s resources will be exhausted if the human population continues to grow.
   Объяснение: «If the human population continues (Present Simple), (then) the Earth’s resources will be exhausted (Future Simple).»
2. People will run out of drinking water one day if they do not use it more rationally.
   Объяснение: If + Present (do not use) → will + инфинитив (will run out).
3. If he wants to help the planet, then he will have to change his habits.
   Объяснение: If he wants (Present) → he will have to (Future) — «will have to» выражает необходимость в будущем.
4. Some islands will be underwater if sea levels rise.
   Объяснение: If sea levels rise (Present), some islands will be underwater (Future).
5. People will not drop litter on the pavement if there are more rubbish bins in towns.
   Объяснение: If there are (Present), people will not drop (Future negative).
6. If we switch off the lights, we will save energy.
   Объяснение: If + Present (switch off) → will + инфинитив (will save).

III. Transform into Passive Voice. Правило: в пассиве подлежащее — это объект активного предложения; используем форму to be в том же времени + Past Participle; агент вводится с by (по желанию).

1. Active: Factories and power stations pump a lot of carbon dioxide in atmosphere.
   Passive: A lot of carbon dioxide is pumped into the atmosphere by factories and power stations.
   Объяснение: «a lot of carbon dioxide» — объект → теперь подлежащее; время Present Simple → is pumped; «in atmosphere» → правильно «into the atmosphere».
2. Active: Most car owners use electric cars today.
   Passive: Electric cars are used by most car owners today.
   Объяснение: «electric cars» — объект → подлежащее; Present Simple → are used.
3. Active: Acid rains damaged trees and buildings.
   Passive: Trees and buildings were damaged by acid rain.
   Объяснение: Время Past Simple → were damaged; «trees and buildings» — теперь подлежащее; обычно говорят «acid rain» (неисчисляемое).
